Getting My Hair Done in Tokyo…

HAIR HISTORY:

I started bleaching my hair when I was 16 or 17 years old. I had been wanting to do it for a long time, but was extremely hesitant because it was not common at the time for Asians to bleach their hair even among celebrities. Finally, I went over to my friend’s house and she helped me get it done. Granted, it was orange-yellow as it goes with first time bleach’s when your hair has a red undertone. From there I dabbled with adding box dye after box dye of silvers and other blondes to try to neutralize the very bright mess on my head and eventually I was actually satisfied with the colour. As my hair grew out, I didn’t bother with it and I ended up with an ombre ahead of the Tumblr trend by accident.

I only get my hair done in Tokyo, Japan! Why?

I’m very mistrusting of American salons for a few reasons, but at the very base of it all, I’m fairly certain that the products used in Japan are both gentler to your hair as well as more specifically developed for optimal results on Asian hair. Granted…
I started bleaching my own hair when I was 17 years old.
Back then, there were very few, if any salons that knew how to bleach Asian hair without absolutely frying it. The first person that bleached my hair successfully was Phillip Carreon from a hair show I did for Eufora. He dyed it a beautiful blue that faded out to silver over time. Having developed some faith in hair stylists, I gave it another go shortly after and had the worst experience possible (did not leave the house for weeks until I bleached it again to get this turquoise colour out).
Fast forward, I
